Dr. Harry
Chernotsky, who is Director of
International Studies and Professor of
Political Science at the
University of North Carolina at
Charlotte will discuss Israel
and Lebanon .
The talk
will address future prospects for peace
in light of the conflict in Lebanon and
recent difficulties between Israel and
Hamas.
Dr.
Chernotsky received his Ph.D. in
Political Science from Rutgers
University . He specializes in
international relations with particular
emphasis on the international political
economy and American foreign policy. He
is the author of numerous articles
appearing in a wide range of
professional journals in the field and
is currently working on a study of local
foreign policy development and an
introductory international studies
text. He was instrumental in the
formation of UNC Charlotte’s Model
United Nations Program and is the
recipient of the Bank of America
Teaching Excellence Award, the
university’s top teaching instructional
honor.

Voyagers Club will meet
Thursday, April 27 at 6:00 PM at the residence of
Gerry and Margie Anderson who have graciously agreed to be
our hosts. Our speaker,
Dr. Loren Fauchier, is an
associate professor in political science and international
studies at Queens University and an expert on US-China
relations and other global issues affecting Asia. Dr.
Fauchier will discuss issues related to the power of the
communist regime in North Korea and the concerns of threat
to China and the US. $25 for members and $35 for
non-members, dinner included.

Dr. Fauchier received his B.A. from California State University,
Sacramento; his M.A. from the University of Arizona and his
Ph.D. from the University of Washington. He has also
received a Certificate of Completion from Johns Hopkins
University--Nanjing University Center for Chinese and
American Studies. His research interests include: Chinese
politics, US-China relations; human rights; globalization
and democracy in developing countries.

Join us on Sunday, February 26th
at 5:30pm at the home of Gordon and Geeta Lloyd for
the next meeting of the Voyagers Club. Our speakers
will be Ambassador Robert Beecroft, former head of
Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a career
officer in the
US Senior Foreign Service. Amb.
Beecroft has served at US Embassies in Paris, Bonn,
Cairo Amman, and Ouagadougou; at the US mission to
NATO and SHAPE military
headquarters in Belgium and as a
member of the US SALT TWO nuclear arms
negotiating team in Geneva. He is
currently teaching at the National War College as a
Diplomat in Residence.
Dr. Mette Beecroft has also served in the Foreign
Service in a variety of posts along with her
husband. She served as the first Deputy Director of
the Family Liaison Office and set up the
Community Liaison Offices on a world-wide basis. Dr.
Beecroft currently serves as the main briefer for
Travel and Transportation at the Foreign Services
Institute where she briefs all new employees and
teaches a number of advanced training classes as
well. She has also served in a volunteer capacity on
numerous Boards of Directors.
The Beecrofts will share their experiences in Bosnia
and Herzegovina and other areas of the Foreign
Service.
