What's the Magellan Society?

The Magellan Society (TMS) is a network of internationally-minded young professionals in the Charlotte area committed to engaging in social and educational activities that promote global understanding. TMS is dedicated in encouraging young adults to "Explore the World in Charlotte" through events like Happy Hours and Adventures in Dining.

Dan Harmon, Digging in South America: How Reed Boats Shaped a Civilization

Have you been thinking about visiting Peru?                   

Dan Harmon will share personal insights and his travel experiences in Peru. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about how you can join his exciting archeological opportunities in Peru this summer!

In addition, he and his brother, Paul will discuss the exploration of artifacts surrounding ancient civilization in Peru and their amazing involvement in recreating reed boats that carried 9-ton stones across Lake Titicaca.

The Expert on Reed Boats

In the summer of 2006, the Harmon brothers alongside archaeologist, Alexei Vranich teamed up to produce their own informative, humorous and “real life” archeological adventure on film, “Reed Boats - The Vanishing Art". The characters and personalities are real, the story unscripted, and you will feel the adventure as you follow their story. Follow the progress of the film at

Paul Harmon is also co-host of Debunked! - Secrets of the Stone Spheres and American Stonehenge for Discovery Channel.

Speaker Info: Richard B. Alexander is the President of R.B. Alexander Co., Ltd., an international consulting and import organization in the Charlotte area. Mr. Alexander has more than 20-years experience in international business.  He has traveled to China numerous times and has come to understand and respect the Chinese business culture.

TMS Young Professionals Group
TMS meets once a month in various locations in Charlotte. It is the opportunity for young professionals to meet, socialize, and network with fellow members in a casual setting. Past events have included attending international festivals around Charlotte, international cooking classes, and volunteering for Council fundraising events such as WorldQuest and the World Citizen Award Dinner.
