The World Affairs Council of Charlotte is pleased to announce the Council Scholar Awards for   the 2010-2011 school year. The Council Scholar Program offers a unique opportunity for selected educators to travel out of the country and bring their experiences abroad home to their school community in North Carolina. 

 

We are looking for internationally-minded individuals who are currently working to provide a global perspective in their classrooms.  Applicants should have a desire to immerse themselves in an international topic/region and be enthusiastic about bringing their experiences home to their classroom, school and colleagues.

 

Applications must be received by 4pm on October 15, 2010.  They may be mailed or hand delivered to the Council. If you did not receive your application via email, you may also access the form online at our website, www.worldaffairscharlotte.org.  Please do not attempt to fax or email your application.  Your prompt attention is appreciated.

The World Affairs Council of Charlotte is committed to the expansion of international education in area schools. The Council Scholar Program is designed to annually reward a few outstanding teachers or administrators, grades K-12, in our community who have demonstrated a commitment to international education. The 2010-2011 school year marks the 17th year of the Council Scholar Program and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte would like to thank the Wachovia Wells Fargo Foundation, German Culture and Language Foundation,  Presbyterian HealthCare/Novant Health, BAE Systems and UNC Charlotte for their generous support.

 The Council Scholar Program not only gives the recipient visibility and recognition, but also provides rewarding educational experiences.  The 2010-2011 Scholar will enjoy:

·         Recognition at our 2011 WorldCitizen Award Dinner
·         Invitations to special Council programs and dinner receptions
·         Lifetime Council membership
·         The opportunity to coordinate seminars and roundtable discussions with past scholars and experts
            for curriculum development, content enrichment, classroom resources and professional interaction
·         A scholarship of up to $2500 for study abroad or international conference attendance

Not only is the program designed to honor exemplary educators, but it will also enhance the Scholars’ international educational experiences in order to further impact their classrooms, schools and communities.
